Electric rice cooker Method
1 cup of rice
2&1/2 cups of water
Take the washed rice in the electric cooker and add water. Turn on the switch. After about 45-60 minutes the switch goes off automatically. If you have a warm mode in your cooker, it goes to warm mode after the rice has been cooked. You will have a fluffy rice. If you want more soft or mushy rice use 3 cups of water.
Aroma rice Cooker/Steamer Method
1 cup of rice
2&1/2 cups of water
This method is exactly same as the electric rice cooker. Take the rice and water into the vessel that has been given. It has white rice and brown rice modes. Press the brown rice button. It also comes with timer. You can set the timer for future time. It comes to warm mode when the rice is done. It takes about an hour. The rice in this method comes out very fluffy. Again here also if you want more soft rice use 3 cups of water for one cup of rice.
Pressure Cooker Method
1 cup of rice
2 cups of water ( In pressure cooker it usually takes less water than normal).
Note:-There are different kinds of pressure cookers in the market. They are different from each other. Follow the manufacturers directions and you have to experiment a couple of times to know how exactly you want your rice. Indian pressure cookers make a whistle sound. So you can go by the number of whistles. But American pressure cookers doesn't give the whistle sound. So you have to go by the time. Here I am using an American cooker. I will show how I do in mine.
Take enough water in the bottom of the cooker.
Take the washed rice and water into a vessel that goes in the pressure cooker. Keep it on medium high heat for 10-15 minutes then bring it down to low heat. Turn of after 10 minutes on low heat. Wait for about 5 minutes until the pressure comes down before you open the cooker. The rice comes out may be slightly sticky and not very fluffy. But if you want a mushy rice for children and elderly people I think it is a best choice of method.
Stove Top Method
1 cup of rice
2&1/2 cups of water
Keep the water and washed rice on medium high flame in a thick bottom vessel. Do not use thin bottom vessel. After 10 minutes you will notice that the water comes to a boil. Then bring it down to low heat and cover. In 20-25 minutes you will notice that all the water is disappeared and rice is cooked well. In this stove top method you will get a nice fluffy non sticky rice. I would check once after 15 minutes the status. If the water is gone and rice still needs to cook you may sprinkle some water.
Oven Method
2 cups of rice
5 cups of water
Preheat the oven to 350F. Take water and washed rice in an oven proof dish. Keep the dish in the preheated oven and cover it. After 30 minutes give a stir and continue cooking. After anther 30 minutes check one more time to see if it is done. If it is not done continue cooking for 10 more minutes. If it needs water sprinkle some water. It took me one hour and ten minutes and I got a very nice and fluffy rice. Remember oven temperatures are different from each other. I would recommend you to experiment a couple of times with 1 cup of rice to know the exact cooking time and quantity of water.
Helpful Tips
Always wash rice before soaking to remove any impurities.
Soak rice before cooking to reduce some cooking time.
