How to Save & Freeze Garden Tomatoes

10/6/2015

When you have a lot of garden tomatoes freeze some. Make sauces and curry base and freeze.
Ways to freeze

Make pasta sauce or curry base sauce and freeze them.
You may blanch tomatoes, peel the skin and freeze them.
You can make tomato puree and freeze.
You may even make a large batch of tomato chutney and freeze.

Most easy way to freeze

Wash the tomatoes and drain the water. Pat them dry. Cut them into small pieces. Take them into zip lock bags and close the bag. Try to remove the air as much as you can from the bags. You may use a drinking straw and squeeze out air from the bag. Press them slightly to flatten the bags. If the bags are flat, they take less space in the freezer. Keep your tomato bags in the freezer. They will be good for the whole year. You may use these tomato pieces to make soups, sauces, curries, dals and chutneys.
