Our mouth is a place for bacteria to multiply rapidly. And that bacteria cause bad breath and gum disease. We have to rinse our mouth one or two times a day. Most commercial mouthwashes contain many chemicals including Fluoride. These chemicals are easily absorbed in the mouth and enter the blood stream. They give temporary fresh feeling but give long term damage. The side effects are dry mouth, plaque build up, increased bad breath, erosion of enamel, DNA damage and oral cancer. If you want to know what is in your mouth wash. Pick up your mouth wash bottle and read the ingredients and google each one of them. Then you will have a clear picture of what you and your family have been using. I bet you will pour it out in the sink immediately.
If you want a natural mouth wash here is a simple recipe with hydrogen peroxide.Hydrogen peroxide is an antibacterial and it is safe to use. It kills the bacteria in the mouth, stops bad breath, stops bleeding from the gums and it whitens the teeth. But it has a bleachy taste. If you can handle that taste you can dilute it with water and use it. If you can not handle the taste use something to mask the bad taste. You may try with any essential oil. Here I am using camphor. Camphor is a natural plant product. It has anti fungal properties. This is available in Indian stores or you may buy online. There are 2 kinds of camphors, edible and non edible. Use the edible one.
We use edible camphor in some sweet preparations. Camphor is also used in some Ayurvedic preparations. It is very volatile. So keep it in an air tight container.
