Oats are great in reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol. Oats Porridge is a healthy breakfast that can give a good amount of fibre. Make it more nutritious with nuts, flax seed and berries.
Ingredients
1 cup of whole grain oats
1 tbsp powdered flax seed
a fist full each of walnuts and almonds
1 or 2 tsp each of black and white sesame seeds
some raisins or dates
Cinnamon or cardamom for garnish
Enough milk or water to cook with
A handful of black berries and rasp berries
 Preparation
There is nothing to prepare in advance but always keep all these ingredients available in your pantry.

Procedure
Boil 1/2 cup of water in a sauce pan. Add whole oats to the boiling water followed by other ingredients except berries. Give them a stir. Then add more water or milk for your desired consistency. If you do not want to use milk at all, just cook with water and add a pinch of salt to bring out the taste. Cook until the oats are cooked. For more creamy consistency, cook for 3-5 minutes more. Transfer the porridge into serving bowls, sprinkle with cinnamon or cardamom powder and top with your favorite fruits or berries. I used blueberries and raspberries.

Helpful Tips
When you are buying oats you should look for whole oats. Do not buy instant oats because they are refined. Choose the one that doesn't contain artificial flavors or artificial colors. And also do not buy if it is mixed with soy or corn. Under ingredients it should only say whole oats.
