Radish Tomato Curry-Mullangi Tomato Kura

Radish Tomato curry or Mullangi tomato kura is a simple & delicious recipe for everyday cooking. Radish contains lot of nutrients and it has a lot of health benefits.
Ingredients
about 4 cups of cut white radish
1 onion
3 tomatoes
3-4 green chilies
a handful of cilantro/coriander leaves
1/2 -1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander cumin powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp amchur/dry mango powder
salt to taste
For tempering
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of hing
few curry leaves

Preparation
Cut onion into small pieces.
Wash radish thoroughly by scrubbing the surface. Do not need to peel.
Cut green chili lengthwise.

Chop cilantro/coriander leaves finely.

Procedure
Heat a thick bottom pan on medium heat with oil. When the oil is hot add chana dal followed by urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and green chili.  Add hing/asafoetida and curry leaves when the chana dal is turning light brown. Then add onions, a pinch of salt and turmeric powder. Give a stir. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes until the onions get translucent. Then add radish and give a stir. Add half a cup of water and let it cook for a few minutes. After about 5 minutes add tomato. To this tomatoes add red chili powder, coriander cumin powder, salt and amchur/dry mango powder. You may also add 1/2 a tsp garam masala powder if you want. It may looks dry after adding all these dry powders. So add 2 tbsp of water. Let it cook covered until tomatoes and every thing is well cooked. When every thing is cooked add cilantro and half a tsp of ghee/clarified butter. Give a good mix and cover it for 5-10 minutes and then serve with chapati or puri or rice.
