Semia payasam or vermicelli kheer is a simple and easy sweet or dessert recipe.
Ingredients
5 cups of milk
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of vermicelli/semia/sevia
4 tbsp of jaggery or raw cane sugar(you may adjust for your taste).
4 tsps of ghee
few cashews and a few golden raisins
5 cardamoms
Preparation
Coarsely powder the cardamom seeds taken out of the pods.
Chop the cashews into small pieces.
Procedure
Take some ghee into a thick bottom pan which is on medium heat. When the ghee is hot add cashews and raisins and fry them until golden color. Transfer them into another plate and keep it aside. Fry the semia/vermicelli in the same ghee until it is slightly brown in color. Then add water to semia and cook it for 2-3 minutes. Then add milk and cook on low medium for about 15 minutes. Stir in between. After 15 minutes, if you want to thicken the milk more you can continue cooking for 5-6 minutes. When you are done add jaggery, cashews, raisins and cardamom powder. Mix them well and switch off the flame. Serve it hot or cold. Enjoy semia payasam with your family and friends. Don't forget to share it.
