Spicy Herbal Buttermilk-Chaas-Salt Lassi

6/18/2016

No need of drinking any commercial lemonades this summer. Spicy herbal buttermilk or chaas is a tasty special summer drink. Let me know if  your family likes it. I am sure they do.
Ingredients
1 cup of yogurt or buttermilk.
Pink Himalayan salt
handful of cilantro/coriander leaves
handful of mint leaves
2 inch piece of ginger
1-2 green chilies
few curry leaves optional
4-5 cups of distilled water

Preparation
Crush all the herbs into a paste in a mortar and pistol or in a blender. Keep it aside.
Procedure
Take yogurt and some water in a jug or in a large vessel and churn it with a churner until you get a nice foam on the top. Add the salt and green paste also and churn again.
Alternatively take all the ingredients into a blender or mixer/grinder and grind them until you get a nice foam.
You may dilute it as you wish. Usually I use 5 cups of water for 1 cup of yogurt.
Note- The amount of foam you get depending on the amount of cream in your yogurt. I get nice foam because I use non homogenized milk for my yogurt. If you use fat free yogurt, you may not get any foam. But it still tastes good with the flavors of herbs.
