Undrallu/ Modakalu/ Kudumulu are the most favorite food for Lord Ganesha/Vinayaka. On Vinayaka Chavithi or Ganesha Chaturthi Modakalu or Undrallu are offered to him. Try my brown rice rava undrallu flavored with curry leaves and sesame seeds.
Ingredients
1 cup brown rice rava
2 cups water
1/4 cup chana dal
1/2 tsp ghee
For Tempering
1-2 tbsp ghee
a few curry leaves
a small pinch of hing
1-2 tsp black or white sesame seeds
Preparation
Wash and soak chana dal for 30 minutes.
Wash and soak rice in water for 20-30 minutes.
Drain the water and let the rice dry on a kitchen towel.
Grind the rice into a coarse rava in your blender or mixer grinder.
Sieve the rava through a fine sieve to separate rice flour from rava.

Procedure
Boil 2 cups of water in a vessel. Add soaked chana dal and salt into the water. When the water comes to a boil, add 1/2 tsp ghee to water and then add brown rice rava. Mix it well and cook it covered on low medium flame. After 3-4 minutes you will notice all the water is evaporated. Then turn the flame to low and continue cooking for about 10 more minutes until all the water is completely gone. Make sure you use a thick bottom pan otherwise the bottom will get black quickly. You will notice a thick crust on the bottom. Transfer the cooked rava mixture into a bowl. Now it is time to do tempering.
Tempering
In a small sauce pan take 1-2 tbsp of ghee and heat it up. When the ghee is hot add chopped curry leaves, a small pinch of hing and 1-2 tsps of black or white sesame seeds. When the sesame seeds are crackling, turn off the stove. Add this tempering to cooked rava mixture. Mix them well. If there are any lumps press them with your fingers. If you need to add more salt you may add it now. Take a small portion into your hand and shape them into a round ball. Continue making all Undrallu until you finish all the mixture.
With these measurements you will get around 9 undrallu. If you need more just double the recipe.
