Undrallu or Kudumulu or Modak is a special dish for Ganesh Chaturthi. Learn how to make Undrallu with white rice rava and brown rice rava. I wanted to show 2 methods of cooking also. So I made undrallu with white rice rava in  electric rice cooker and with brown rice rava on stove top. Brown rice rava is healthier than white rice. I am presenting both. But the choice is yours.
Ingredients
Whte rice rava Undrallu
1 cup white rice rava
1/4 cup chana dal
1&1/2 cups water
About 1 tbsp of ghee or clarified butter.
Salt to taste.
Brown rice rava Undrallu
1 cup whole grain brown rice
1/4 cup chana dal
2 cups water
About 2 tbsp of ghee or clarified butter.
Salt to taste.

Preparation
Wash and soak chana dal in water for at least 30 minutes.
Wash and soak white or brown rice for 30 minutes. Then drain the water and let the rice dry on a kitchen towel. Then put it in the blender and run it through a sieve to separate rice flour from rava. Now this rice rava is ready to be used.
Procedure
White undrallu in rice cooker
Take white rice rava, water and soaked chana dal in the electric cooker. Turn on the switch. When the rava is cooked the switch goes off automatically. Now transfer this into a bowl and add ghee or clarified butter while it is hot and let it cool down. When it is cold take a little portion into your hand and shape them into a big lemon size ball. By wetting your hands with little water or ghee makes it easy to make undrallu without sticking to your hands.
Brown undrallu on stove top
Take 2 cups of water in a thick bottom sauce pan and add salt and soaked chana dal to it. Let it come to a boil. Then add brown rava. Bring down the flame to low, cover and cook for about 10 minutes. Turn off the flame. Transfer this into a bowl and add ghee to it. Let it cool down. When it is cold take a little portion at a time into your hand and shape them into a big lemon size ball. By wetting your hands with little water or ghee makes it easy to make undrallu without sticking to your hands.
Helpful Tips
Addition of ghee o Undrallu makes them more tasty.

Health Information
Whole grain brown rice contains the essential nutrients like Fiber,Vitamin B, Vitamin E and Selenium. White rice is refined and most of the nutrients are stripped away.
